New Leeds United manager Simon Grayson has confirmed he will be looking to bring in fresh faces when the January transfer window opens tomorrow.

The former Blackpool boss will be working alongside technical director Gwyn Williams and the pair have already discussed potential targets.

“There are things that are going on in the background, but there’s no guarantee as to when,” said Grayson.

“I’ll be working closely with Gwyn, but you also have to give the players here an opportunity.

“Hopefully, there will be a couple because there is a need for freshness and competition for places.”

Ripon-born Grayson has already brought in one new recruit.

Former Blackburn and Leicester coach Ian Miller has joined the new Elland Road coaching staff and will travel with the squad for Saturday’s away match with Coca-Cola League One’s bottom club Hereford United.

Grayson has been at the helm for only eight days, but has already presided over a draw with top-of-the-table Leicester City last week and a 3-1 win over Stockport County on Sunday.

“It’s been very busy, but it’s been a fantastic start,” he said. “I want to make an impact and hopefully we’ve done that.

“Hopefully, over the next months, we can continue to do that and the more victories will see the confidence and belief come back.”

Malcolm Christie was also a benefactor from Sunday’s win.

The injury-prone forward, signed by former boss Gary McAllister in November, came off the bench to score his first goal for United and round off the team’s victory.

“It’s absolutely fantastic to score again,” said Christie.

“As people know, I’ve had a rough time of it, but I’ve put in a lot of hard work.”

Although the former Derby and Middlesbrough striker was signed by McAllister, he is happy to be a part of the new manager’s regime.

“The gaffer wants to get everyone organised and know their roles,” said the striker.

“It’s back to basics at the moment because it’s about results. We’ve got to look up the league, but hopefully we can build on that.

“Now we have to go and string a run of results together.”
