The former Elland Road midfielder, who succeeded Dennis Wise earlier in the week, moved quickly to bolster his squad.
Slovakian defender Lubo Michalik, who has been on loan with the Whites, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal after United agreed a fee with Bolton.
Left-back Alan Sheehan, 21, has joined on loan from Leicester City until the end of the season, while defender Darren Kenton's loan move from the Foxes has been turned into a permanent deal.
The club also landed Stockport County striker Anthony Elding, agreeing terms with the prolific 25-year-old marksman last night.
Meanwhile, McAllister will start his reign in earnest when Tranmere Rovers visit Elland Road in Coca-Cola League One tomorrow (3pm).
United suffered a 1-0 defeat at Southend on Tuesday night, hours after the Scot was appointed.
But he was in upbeat mood, declaring: "The task is to push for promotion. That is clear."
