LEEDS United head coach Steve Evans is dreaming of an FA Cup fourth round home tie when the draw is made live on BBC 1’s The One Show at about 7.15pm tonight.

The Whites beat his former club Rotherham 2-0 at Elland Road on Saturday for the next round on Saturday, January 30 and Evans is looking to return to home turf.

“I’d like a home tie, whoever it is,” he said. “Everyone would want the lowest ranked team at home to come and have a payday and we see them off. Or we get one of the big giants of English football to come play another giant in one of those days that I am here to experience.”

Leeds have been allocated number 27 in tonight’s draw after the victory stretched United’s unbeaten run to eight games. The win was revenge for Rotherham’s league win at Leeds in November when former Leeds chief Neil Redfearn was triumphant.

This time it was Evans’ turn to be happy. He said: “We were able to leave a few out and still had enough to get over the line.

“The boys have worked really hard, we were disappointed with last week (a fortunate 1-1 home draw with Championship strugglers MK Dons) but I thought in parts we played really well today.”

Evans handed full debuts to Mustapha Carayol and Academy product Lewie Coyle and was rewarded with two good displays.

Carayol, signed on loan from Middlesbrough on Friday night ignited a dour affair just before half-time with a stunning strike. Overlapping full-back Charlie Taylor’s smart cut back was collected by Carayol who thrashed the ball with enormous power past goalkeeper Lee Camp.

Until then the magic of the cup had been in little evidence before a subdued low crowd which created barely any atmosphere. Even the matchday programme was reduced in both size and price.

Rotherham played most of the opening 30 minutes in Leeds’ territory without really threatening as United’s 4-4-2 formation failed to click as Mirco Antenucci and Souleymane Doukara struggled to hold the ball up in attack.

Carayol’s super strike loosened the shackles and United improved after the break, looking more likely to add a second goal as Rotherham’s attacks lacked a cutting edge to complement some decent approach play.

Carayol departed to a standing ovation on 73 minutes and his replacement, Stuart Dallas, rattled the bar soon afterwards with a curling shot.

Leeds, however, smoothed their path into round four in the 90th minute when Doukara was gifted his first Leeds goal since November 2014. Camp failed to collect a ball that Frazer Richardson was shepherding back towards goal and Doukara nipped in to walk the ball into the net.

Providing regular striker Chris Wood is pronounced fit, Evans is likely to revert back to his preferred 4-1-4-1 formation for the Championship trip to promoting-chasing Ipswich tomorrow (Tuesday).

Coyle, 20, neat and tidy at right-back on Saturday, is likely to miss out at Portman Road with the more muscular presence of Scott Wootton likely to be needed for an expected tough aerial challenge from Mick McCarthy’s team.
