PESSIMISTS would say Leeds United have made a winless start to the Championship season.

Optimists would point out the Whites are unbeaten.

Leeds coach Uwe Rosler is firmly in the camp of the latter after his side drew 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on Saturday – their fourth consecutive league draw.

He said: “We say the glass is half full, not half empty. It was our fourth game in nine days, which is very hard, especially at this early stage of the season, but we have come through those games unbeaten and I am delighted.

“We were not as good on the ball as we would have liked but we were carrying the midweek game at Bristol City in our legs.”

An error-strewn first-half was illuminated by a wonder goal by Wednesday’s Portugese Under-21 international Marco Matias. Timing his run perfectly, he flicked the ball over Liam Cooper and sent a stunning angled lob beyond goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.

It was only when Rosler introduced Alex Mowatt and Luke Murphy early in the second half that Leeds looked better balanced in midfield.

Within five minutes United were level as Stuart Dallas got round the back of the Owls defence and his hard low cross was forced in by Chris Wood for his second goal of the week.

Leeds dominated for the last half-hour but could not find a winner on a day when defences were in charge – Sol Bamba being particularly impressive at the heart of the home backline.

Rosler declined to comment on reports that Watford’s Fernando Forestieri is on the verge of joining Leeds.

What are the odds that Leeds will draw their next game? They are at Derby, who have also drawn all their opening four Championship matches.
