Norton trainer Brian Ellison has resisted the temptation of running Hada Men at Carlisle this afternoon and is instead relying on Dizzy River to clinch the most valuable race on the card.

The Watch Racing UK on Channel 432 Handicap Hurdle is part of the Betfair Hurdle Series, and Ellison placed Hada Men to easily win a similar qualifier on the same track last Sunday.

Hada Men would have had a 7lb penalty to carry if he had turned out again today, but the chances are he would still have gone off favourite, given the ease of his recent victory.

Ellison, however, is leaving the seven-year-old behind and has instead chosen to be represented by Dizzy River, who is fancied to take plenty of beating.

A Musselburgh winner three starts back, Dizzy River has since finished in the frame on the same course and at Wetherby, both times recording creditable performances. He has every chance of resuming winning ways with Dougie Costello in the saddle.

Ryan Mania has been enjoying a good run of things in recent weeks and this talented young jockey, who briefly quit the saddle last year, can take the honours by recording a Carlisle double.

Mania rides Whiskey Ridge for Bingley trainer Sue Smith in the childrenscancerrun.co.uk Handicap Chase and this consistent performer boasts good prospects off his light weight after chasing home Vin de Roy at Market Rasen on his latest start.

Man Of Principles runs in the Stars Handicap Chase and will be a popular choice with punters after his latest facile success.

Stuart Coltherd’s gelding won by no less than 33 lengths at Hexham last week. His rating has gone up from 74 to 91 as a result of that dramatic win, but he is able to run here under only a 7lb penalty. He should be a tough nut to crack.

Lightening Rod, trained by Mick Easterby, won at Hexham on his seasonal debut, but has not enjoyed much luck since.

He bumped into no less a horse than the brilliant Sprinter Sacre when finishing second at Doncaster and then unseated his rider at Catterick next time before producing a disappointing effort at Musselburgh six weeks ago.

The Sheriff Hutton gelding deserves respect as he returns to action in the Emma Conlan Memorial Novices’ Chase.

At Lingfield tomorrow, Paul Hanagan teams up with John Gosden aboard the very promising Eshtibaak, owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, his new boss, in the Breathe Spa At Lingfield Marriott Handicap.

Eshtibaak won on the second of his two runs last season– a maiden at Nottingham – in the style of a useful horse in the making. He is unproven on an artificial surface and has in-form Colour Guard to beat here, but he makes considerable appeal and carries the nap vote.

Hanagan rode his first winner in the Maktoum colours since starting his new job at Wolverhampton last Saturday night.

Hanagan has chances of a double on recent Wolverhampton winner Prohibition (5.20).

The promising Shame On You (2.30), trained by Charles Hills, and Baby Strange (4.10), who shaped with promise last time out at Southwell after completely missing the break, are two others to note on Lingfield’s seven-race card.
