North Yorkshire trainer Tom Tate sends Flamingo Cay to Haydock this afternoon seeking for quick compensation.

The gelding was sent off favourite on his debut at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, but, in a messy race, he had to settle for the runner-up prize.

The benefit of that outing should stand Flamingo Cay in excellent stead today in the Noah And The Whale 28th April National Hunt Flat Race.

He looked a grand type at Newcastle and his performance suggested it should not be long before he was winning. Opportunity can come knocking here in the hands of James Reveley.

Scottish trainer Lucinda Russell enjoyed a superb victory at Cheltenham last week with Brindisi Breeze and has since boosted her tally to 50 winners with a Carlisle double.

Russell has her horses in excellent heart and Bold Sir Brian can provide her with another success in the Sam’s Bars Handicap Chase. A Grade 2 hurdler last season, the gelding has since developed into a very smart chaser, winning his last three starts in fine style. This is no easy task under top weight in a handicap, but Bold Sir Brian is a classy performer.

Few will forget in a hurry the brilliant ride Tony McCoy gave Synchronized to win last week’s Cheltenham Gold Cup and Haydock racegoers are in for a treat with the perennial champion in action at the Lancashire track.

McCoy should not go home empty-handed. He partners the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Holywell in the Whizz-Kidz Charity ‘Fixed Brush’ Novices’ Hurdle and this progressive five-year-old can post his third win from five starts.

Norton trainer Ollie Pears bids to strike while the iron is hot at Wolverhampton tomorrow.

Pears saddles Last Sovereign in the FreeBetting.co.uk Handicap and last week’s Kempton winner is fancied to defy a 6lb penalty. Michael O’Connell, excellent value for his 3lb allowance, again takes the ride.

Dispol Grand is awarded the nap vote in the opening Horse Racing Free Bets With FreeBetting.co.uk Handicap over five furlongs.

Trained by Paul Midgley at Westow, the six-year-old made an encouraging start to the season when beaten only a couple of lengths into sixth place on this course a fortnight ago.

Dispol Grand will be partnered by Ned Curtis, who has joined the Midgley yard after proving himself a top pony-race rider.

Brian Ellison and Mark Johnston can also figure among the winners.

Ellison has found a good opportunity for Greyfriarschorista, who is dropped into selling company. The top-rated horse in the line-up should be hard to beat.

Johnston can hit the target with Moataz in the Black Country’s Only Racecourse Handicap. Joe Fanning’s mount trotted up by nearly four lengths here last week and, despite a 6lb penalty, may have too much firepower.
