Bryan Smart is fancied to further enhance his best campaign tomorrow at Newmarket by completing a juvenile double.

The Hambleton trainer has enjoyed an excellent year and took his score to 70 winners in Britain, plus one in France, at Redcar earlier in the week when he completed a double.

His sole French victory was his most important of the year – a Group 1 triumph in the Prix de l’Abbeye, courtesy of Tangerine Trees, who made every inch of the running over Longchamp’s flying five-furlong course in the hands of stable jockey Tom Eaves.

Tomorrow, Smart and Eaves can score with Excelette and Bop It. A dual-winner, Excelette has developed into a useful sprinter and her latest effort when second in the richly-endowed Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy was a fine effort.

Her target tomorrow is a tough one, the ‘Dubawi’ EBF Bosra Sham Fillies’ Stakes, which carries Listed status, but she is a useful performer and a bold bid is anticipated.

Bop It also ran in the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy and failed to cut much ice, finishing well down the field. That was a disappointing effort, but Smart was inclined to put a line through it as the colt got a bit excitable on the day.

Bop It, closely related to top sprinter Hoof It, had won his previous two starts and had looked a most progressive type. He should be forgiven his Redcar lapse and given another chance in the NGK Spark Plugs Conditions Stakes.

Paul Hanagan is another North Yorkshire raider at Newmarket. He has several chances on the card, not least aboard Orsippus in the Racing UK Handicap over two miles.

Trained near Newcastle by Michael Smith, Orsippus, a high-class hurdler, bounced back to winning form on the Flat at York earlier this month. Now that he is firing on all cylinders once again, he is worth keeping on the right side. He should go well.

Hanagan has also picked up three rides for William Haggas, and while all three look interesting, Noble Thought, who runs in the first leg of the Christine Kilker Maiden Stakes is not to be overlooked. A son of Rock Of Gibraltar, he cost 125,000 guineas as a yearling and boasts a useful pedigree.

Middleham trainer Mark Johnston and jockey Silvestre de Sousa can also figure.

They are represented by Jeu de Vivre in the EBF ‘Archipenko’ Fillies’ Handicap. The three-year-old, a winner two starts back, failed by only a short head to beat Miss Ferney at Musselburgh last time out. She has every chance of getting back on top.

Hanagan and de Sousa, both with their eyes on the jockeys' championship, head to Wolverhampton in the evening, and Hanagan may get the better.

The Malton pilot has been booked to ride Violent Velocity for Norton trainer John Quinn in the ESPN Breeders’ Cup Coverage On ATR Handicap.

The old-timer won with some style at Doncaster last weekend in an apprentices’ race. He escapes a penalty here on a course where he has previously won and is worthy of the nap vote.

Dale Swift, whose season was highlighted by his Ebor victory at York in August on Moyenne Corniche, travels to Wolverhampton with good prosepects aboard John Mackie’s consistent Vizean in the At The Races Sky 415 Fillies’ Handicap.
