Silvestre de Sousa, valiantly chasing Paul Hanagan in the race for the jockeys’ title, is not giving up without a fight.

The Brazilian-born pilot, who lives at Thirsk, has a useful bunch of rides tomorrow at Lingfield and Kempton and has excellent prospects of enjoying multiple success.

As number one rider to Mark Johnston’s Middleham operation, de Sousa can score for his boss at both meetings, starting off with Kinloch Castle in Lingfield’s British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing Maiden Stakes.

The colt showed signs of greenness on his debut at Catterick a couple of weeks ago, but was only narrowly beaten by Serene Oasis. The juvenile will surely have benefited and is taken to go one better.

Medal Of Valour, also trained by Johnston, can be another winner for de Sousa in the Ride Sierra Nevada For Marie Curie Handicap.

A fluent winner at Pontefract on his second and latest start, Medal Of Valour has been handed a rating of 75 for his handicap bow. He looks as though he’s got plenty more to offer.

At Kempton’s evening meeting de Sousa can remain in the spotlight. He rides recent Wolverhampton winner Master Of Disguise, tomorrow’s nap selection, for Brian Baugh in the opening bluesq.com Claiming Stakes and the Johnston-trained Fascinating in the Enhanced SP’s At bluesq.com Handicap.

Winner of his last two starts at Wolverhampton, Fascinating is a horse in form at the right time and there must be every chance that he can complete a hat-trick.

While de Sousa, who is due to ride in next Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup at Flemington in Australia, has good prospects of making hay tomorrow, Hanagan will not be allowing him all his own way.

The Malton ace, who is in pole position in the title race which ends on Saturday week at Doncaster, is also undertaking a Lingfield-Kempton double-header.

Hanagan can score on The Shrew in Lingfield’s Normandie Stud Fleur de Lys Fillies’ Stakes, a Listed race. John Gosden’s three-year-old failed to cut much ice in the 1,000 Guineas in early May, and made her first appearance since when third in Listed company at Newmarket last month. She is likely to be fitter and sharper this time.

At Kempton, Hanagan’s best chance promises to be Cheherazad in the Blue Square Mini Roulette Handicap. Paul Cole’s three-year-old has welded together a sequence of placed efforts on turf. If he can handle this switch to an artificial surface, he should go well.

Just to make matters more interesting, Kieren Fallon, the third player in the championship battle, also looks likely to figure among the winners tomorrow.

The six-times champion has good prospects on Dulkashe in the bluesq.com Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
