From Ascot to Pontefract in 48 hours... Trainer Sir Henry Cecil, owner Prince Khalid Abdulla and jockey Tom Queally, who celebrated a flawless nine from nine with the mighty Frankel on Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday, can lift the feature race at Pontefract this afternoon.

The juvenile Stipulate has little in common with Frankel, other than he shares the same Warren Place base at Newmarket and the same set of connections, but he’s a pretty promising colt and he every chance of capturing the Totepool Silver Tankard, a Listed race over a mile.

A narrow winner on his debut at Leicester, Stipulate stepped up in class at Haydock next time and came up short, finishing fourth to Caledonian Spring.

He still looked fairly green and raw on that occasion and there is every reason to believe that he can make further progress with that experience under his belt.

Jamie Spencer also enjoyed a triumph to remember at Ascot on Saturday, his success on Fame And Glory under a masterly ride from the front giving him a major victory on the Aidan O’Brien-trained powerhouse.

Spencer also travels to Pontefract today and is fancied to win on Desert Philosopher in the totequickpick Maiden Stakes.

The Kevin Ryan-trained colt shaped well to finish third on his debut at Warwick a fortnight ago. A grand type, this son of Pastoral Pursuits is napped to open his winning account.

Spencer can also win on Cheddar George for Peter Chapple-Hyam. The five-year-old has been confined to only one outing – a winning one – this season, but opportunity may come knocking in the toteswinger Handicap.

Another Wise Kid and Berberana were separated by only inches at the end of a recent encounter at Ripon and both horses turn out at Pontefract in different divisions of the totequadpot Handicap.

Berberana, trained by Tim Easterby, goes in the first leg under David Allan, while Another Wise Kid, raised 3lbs for his Ripon win, lines up under Micky Fenton in the second leg. Both have solid chances.

Two winners at Catterick on Saturday maintained Paul Hanagan’s momentum in the title race.

The Malton ace, strongly pursued by Silvestre de Sousa and Kieren Fallon, will be hoping to add to this tally today. Among his chances is Ventura Spirit, a Carlisle winner on his latest start, who is saddled by Richard Fahey in the opening toteplacepot Nursery.

Hanagan journeys to Yarmouth tomorrow and teams up with nap selection Aniseed (1.50), who met trouble in running, but who caught the eye at Newmarket on her latest outing.

Hanagan has chances of a double on Merito (5.20), trained by Ryan.
