FALLEN FOR YOU is napped to take her revenge on Lyric Of Light in a fascinating renewal of the Shadwell Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket tomorrow.
The pair met recently at Doncaster in the May Hill Stakes when Lyric Of Light narrowly beat Fallen For You, though not before drifting towards the stands rail in the closing stages, taking her main rival with her.
Both fillies are open to further improvement, but Fallen For You may well turn the tables tomorrow for trainer John Gosden, who has won this prestigious race in recent times with such smart performers as Crystal Music, Playful Act, Nannina and Rainbow View.
William Buick again takes the mount on Fallen For You, with Frankie Dettori continuing his association with Lyric Of Light in the Godolphin colours. There should again be little between them, but Fallen For You is selected to take the lion’s share of the £150,000 on offer for this Group 1 showpiece, one of four races set to be covered by Channel 4 television.
Gosden and Buick can also take the opening Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes with the potentially high-class Questing.
A useful-looking winner on her debut, Questing still looked green when a close-up third to Regal Realm in a rather muddling Prestige Stakes at Goodwood four weeks ago. She looks capable of stepping up on that performance.
The Group 2 Nayef Joel Stakes looks a good opportunity for Libranno to add to his seasonal spoils.
Trained by Richard Hannon and the mount of Richard Hughes, the talented three-year-old gained a cleverly-executed victory in Group 3 company at Goodwood on his latest outing. There is more to come from him.
Electra Star has been in terrific form lately and the William Haggas-trained three-year-old should make a bold bid in the Mawtheeq Rosemary Stakes.
She has not finished out of the first two all season and looked better than ever when winning at Ascot last time. Electra Star will be partnered by Adam Beschizza, whose valuable allowance will help offset her 7lb rise in the ratings.
Thirsk trainer David Barron sends Sirvino to Newmarket for the Aqlaam Godolphin Stakes, and the 2009 John Smith’s Cup winner at York, who has been in good nick this season, has a fighting chance of bringing this Listed race back to North Yorkshire.
Paul Hanagan can rule the roost at Haydock, where he has good prospects of completing a treble.
Malton’s champion jockey teams up with an interesting newcomer from the William Haggas yard in Cardigan (2.35).
This £48,000 purchase may not have to be anything out of the ordinary to make a winning debut.
Godolphin trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni has snapped up Hanagan to ride Police Force (3.10), who has shown a fair level of ability in his three races, though he does have to shrug off the fact that he was a beaten favourite last time out.
Hanagan’s best chance probably lies with Lordofthehouse (4.20), who is chasing a hat-trick of wins for Haggas, who has placed him well. Furthermore, the three-year-old was triumphant on this course last time out.
Also worth noting at the Lancashire course are Hacienda (2.05) and Tim Walford’s Kodicil (4.55), a Beverley winner last month.
