IT is Catterick tomorrow, which must mean that Eijaaz is racing!

The evergreen veteran, trained near Thirsk by Geoff Harker, is virtually an annual member of the North Yorkshire course.

He has made 21 Catterick appearances, winning five times, finished second on seven occasions and third twice.

Tomorrow, he reappears in the racinguk.com Claiming Stakes, which he won 12 months ago.

The ten-year-old has been running well lately and, with Silvestre de Sousa, who knows him so well, on board, he is fancied to win again on his favourite track.

Tim Easterby has a high opinion of Piece By Piece, who is expected to take plenty of beating in the catterickbridge.co.uk Novice Auction Stakes.

A 16-1 winner on his debut at Ripon, this strapping son of Byron came within a neck of following up in a useful race at Newcastle, where he was just outpointed by the well regarded Parc De Launay.

Both those races were over six furlongs and Piece By Piece will relish the step up to seven furlongs tomorrow. Learning all the time, the potentially smart horse is expected to have too much firepower for his rivals. David Allan has the mount.

In the 5th Regiment Royal Artillery Handicap, Crimson Knot bids for quick compensation on behalf of trainer Alan Berry and jockey Julie Burke.

At Chester on Friday night, the speedy three-year-old was badly hampered after a furlong and did well in the circumstances to finish fourth, beaten by little more than four lengths, by the winner Shoshoni Wind.

Although not ideally drawn tomorrow, Crimson Knot is unlikely to meet trouble in running this time and may find opportunity knocking.

Sir Mark Prescott is renowned for striking while the iron is hot with horses and the Newmarket trainer is set to do just that with Memory Lane in the August 12th Is Ladies Evening Handicap.

The mount of Seb Sanders, Memory Lane broke his maiden over this course and distance last week by no less than eight lengths in maiden company. A 6lb penalty hardly looks enough to stop him in his tracks in this low grade handicap.

William Haggas is another Newmaket trainer expected to be among the winners.

Haggas, who sent out Green Destiny to win Saturday’s John Smith’s Cup at York in emphatic style, saddles Beechcraft Baron in the Yorkshire Racing Summer Festival Maiden Stakes. Significantly, he has booked Paul Hanagan to take the mount.

A beaten favourite at Windsor last time out, when he surely ran too bad to be true, Beechcraft Baron is worth another chance to fulfill the promise he had shown previously in what looks a pretty ordinary contest.

At Lingfield, Frankie Dettori teams up with Burj Hatta (3.30), a beaten favourite last time out, but a horse, frustrating though he’s become, who still looks capable of winning in run of the mill maiden company such as this.

Musically (4.00), who showed promise on her debut at Newbury, and recent Bath winner Redvers (5.00) are two others for the notebook.
