IT IS not too often that a trainer comes straight out and predicts that a horse will “go and win three or four races now”.

However, Richard Guest did precisely that at Newcastle last Thursday after Ted’s Brother had opened his winning account.

Significantly, the three-year-old heads to Beverley tomorrow in a bid to follow up under a 6lb penalty.

Paul Hanagan, in the saddle last week, again takes the mount on Ted’s Brother, who was well supported before his latest success, signifying a deal of confidence in his ability.

Ted’s Brother runs in the Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire Pudding Handicap and is napped to chalk up another win.

Hanagan could be in for a lucrative evening. The Malton champion can also score on Regal Kiss and Wood Fairy.

Trained by Mark Johnston, Regal Kiss, a winner at Redcar last season, ran a creditable comeback race to finish fourth at Sandown. She commands plenty of respect in the Natwest Agricultural Team Handicap.

Wood Fairy, trained by Richard Fahey, goes for the John Forkin Memorial Handicap.

Having missed the whole of last season, the five-year-old made an encouraging comeback in an apprentices’ race at Hamilton earlier this month, looking sure to win when stealing a march on her rivals down the hill only to be worn down inside the final furlong.

Hanagan is likely to use slightly more restrained tactics on Wood Fairy tomorrow.

Hanagan and Fahey also have a good chance of winning the British Stallion Studs William Jackson Bakery Novice Stakes with Alejandro, but this useful juvenile may have his work cut out to beat Quite A Thing, trained by Sir Mark Prescott.

Quite A Thing made quite an impression on her debut at Lingfield, sprinting home with eight lengths to spare over her rivals. She looks extra smart and, provided the switch to turf does not impede her, she is going to be hard to beat.

At Doncaster, Webbow has every chance of ending a long losing run in the Martin Franks And Adrian Smith Cardsave Handicap.

Trained at Norton by Mark Campion, Webbow was narrowly denied on this course earlier this month by Smarty Socks. He would not need to improve much on that performance to go one better here.

Stagecoach Danman will be a tough nut to crack in the Direct Traffic Management Handicap.

Mark Johnston’s progressive three-year-old gained an overdue win on his latest start at Pontefract, making all the running and staying on strongly.

With the three-year-old allowance against older rivals here, he can make his mark in handicap company by defying a 6lb penalty.

Paul Midgley has his horses in fine form and the Westow trainer has good prospects at Beverley with Silvanus (8.30) and with Nomoreblondes at Doncaster in the Gaye Turton And Chris Bailey-Stonall Cardsave Fillies’ Handicap.

Both these sprinters have been in good form lately.
