Fullandby, who was so close to winning the historic Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon on his latest outing, can gain compensation for that defeat at Haydock tomorrow.

The gelding, trained at Norton by Tim Etherington, crosses the Pennines for his favourite rain-softened ground to contest the £15,000 Vale UK Classified Stakes and is napped to gain his second success of the campaign.

Triumphant at Newmarket before his Great St Wilfrid bid, Fullandby was inconvenienced by a low draw at Ripon and the waiting tactics employed by Andrew Elliott may have been slightly overdone.

As it was, the four-year-old - given plenty of ground to make up - finished strongly to take second place only a length behind the winner Excusez Moi.

Fullandby, who is at his best over six furlongs with some give in the ground, has his ideal conditions to produce a winning performance tomorrow. Paul Mulrennan takes the mount.

Mulrennan, who is attached to Mick Easterby's Sheriff Hutton yard, can also score on Mezuzah, trained by his boss, in the Kings Regiment Cup Handicap.

This six-year-old mud-lover has been running well on quicker than ideal ground. A return to his favourite conditions tomorrow gives him more than a fighting chance of resuming winning ways, probably at the main expense of Brian Ellison's hat-trick seeking Bailieborough.

Richard Fahey, whose Tagula Sunrise is a danger to Nap selection Fullandby, has further solid chances at Haydock. In the Vale UK Handicap, the Malton trainer saddles former course winner St Savarin, who ran well enough in a competitive race at Pontefract on his latest start to suggest he can go well tomorrow. The in-form Paul Hanagan has the mount.

The accomplished Barry McHugh, who is attached to Fahey's Musley Bank yard, will be aboard Richtee for his boss in the Vale UK Amateur Riders' Handicap.

Although the mare will probably be suited by dropping back in distance after running out of stamina over a longer trip at Carlisle last time, my vote goes to Regal Connection, who has been in consistent form lately.

At Kempton, Frankie Dettori can score on Laurentina (2.40) and the potentially smart Changing Wind (4.50), a winner on this course on his debut three weeks ago.
