Ladies Are Forever, who provided Brawby trainer Geoff Oldroyd with the biggest success of his career when winning the £130,000 Redcar Two-year-Old Trophy last October, puts her Classic credentials on the line at Newmarket tomorrow.

Owned and bred by Reg Bond from Pocklington, Ladies Are Forever, winner of two of her three juvenile starts, makes her reappearance in the Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes with Silvestre de Sousa on board.

This Group 3 event is a race well worth winning in its own right, but Ladies Are Forever is also competing with a view to proving her stamina.

This will be the first time she has tackled seven furlongs and a bold bid would encourage her connections that a step up to a mile in the 1,000 Guineas on May 1 is a tilt worth taking.

There is no doubt that Ladies Are Forever is a talented filly. Her only defeat last season was in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she was narrowly beaten into third place. Tomorrow’s race will be tough, but Ladies Are Forever is fancied to come out on top.

Richard Fahey, who saddles Barefoot Lady in the Nell Gwyn, also runs Sir Reginald in the £150,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Sprint over six furlongs.

A highly talented juvenile, who finished fourth in the Gimcrack Stakes at York for his owner Jim McGrath, Sir Reginald is expected to go well in this valuable contest in the hands of Paul Hanagan.

The Paddyman, who is trained by William Haggas, has strong claims in the bluesq.com European Free Handicap.

A Yarmouth winner on his second outing last season, he was in the frame in three subsequent attempts in Group-race company. Ryan Moore looks a useful jockey booking for the nap selection.

At Catterick, Freddie Tylicki can give a reminder of his talents on Shadow Catcher in the racinguk.com Maiden Stakes.

Tylicki, champion apprentice in 2009, but sidelined with a serious injury for much of last season, is now back firing on all cylinders and rode two winners last week for Darlington trainer Michael Dods. Shadow Catcher, another of Dods’ horses, showed enough in three races last season to suggest he can pay his way.
