North Yorkshire’s junior riding sensation, Freddie Tylicki, two ahead of David Probert in the race for the apprentices’ championship, can nail the title by completing a successful double-header at Southwell and Wolverhampton tomorrow, which is Probert’s final chance to make his mark.

An untimely suspension means that Probert, who shared top-spot in last year’s championship with William Buick, will miss the final day of the season at Doncaster on Saturday.

He has some good rides tomorrow, but so too has Malton-based Tylicki who is fancied to score on Yeadon, Tartatartufata and Mount Hadley at Southwell before going on to Wolverhampton, where he will meet Probert in a head-on showdown.

Yeadon, trained by Tylicki’s boss Richard Fahey, is selected to captialise on a drop in class in the Betdaq Claiming Stakes, while Tartatartufata – named after a Spanish dessert – is taken to lift the Carlsberg Handicap.

A creditable third at Catterick last time out, the James Given-trained sprinter will relish the return to Fibresand, being a three-times winner on this course.

Mount Hadley, trained by Gerard Butler, runs in the Membership of Southwell Golf Club Handicap and has strong claims if he can reproduce the sort of form he showed when winning at Beverley three starts back. The negative is, that Mount Hadley has yet to score on an artificial surface in five previous attempts.

Also worth noting at Southwell are the Godolphin duo, Judiciary (1.00) and Tertiary (1.30), the first-named a promising maiden, and the latter a Brighton winner on his debut.

At Wolverhampton’s evening meeting, both Tylicki and Probert have good chances of figuring on the scoreboard.

Probert can take the first and last races aboard the in-form Titus Gent (5.50) and Decider (9.20).

Both are trained by Ron Harris, and both are course-and-distance winners.

As for Tylicki, he is selected to win on nap selection Six Wives (6.20), a good second here last time out and proven over this course and distance.

Shakespeare’s Son (6.50), who looks to be coming to hand, and the very promising La De Two (8.20), who represents the in-form Godolphin powerhouse, are two others to note.
