Webbow, narrowly beaten in the Thirsk Hunt Cup on his recent comeback outing, has good prospects of going one better at Ripon tomorrow.

Previously trained by Tim Easterby, the gelding is now with Nigel Tinkler, who narrowly failed to make a triumphant start with him at Thirsk when Webbow went down by only half a length to Flawed Genius.

Ironically, it is one of Webbow’s former stable-mates, the Easterby-trained Charlie Tipple, who represents one of Webbow’s main dangers in tomorrow’s £18,000 Ripon Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse Handicap.

Not far behind him in the Thirsk Hunt Cup, Charlie Tipple deserves respect, but he may again find Webbow carrying too many guns for him.

Whatever the fate of Charlie Tipple, Easterby has other chances to shine on the card.

Fibs And Flannel, owned by Channel 4 racing presenter Jim McGrath, showed definite signs of promise despite running green on his debut at Newcastle.

It would be no surprise to see him involved in the finish of the Leyburn Maiden Stakes.

Later on the card, Easterby saddles Ponty Rossa in the £15,000 CB Hutchinson Memorial Challenge Cup and this useful five-year-old should make a bold bid.

The recent rain will have eased the ground nicely for Ponty Rossa, who has shaped well on both her starts this season on this course and at Thirsk.

She is napped to resume winning ways.

Just Lille, narrowly beaten by Granston on her latest start on this course, is fancied to find compensation in the Middleham Trainers’ Association Handicap.

The promising Countenance should not be overlooked in the second division of the ripon-races.co.uk Maiden Stakes.

Over the sticks at Market Rasen, Stillington trainer Ruth Carr can continue her winning run with Newgate in the Racing UK Live In Your Living Room Handicap Hurdle.

Successful here and at Wetherby on his last two starts, Newgate appears to be relishing new tactics of being held up for a late run.

He will not go down without a fight in his hat-trick bid with Oliver Williams, Malcolm Jefferson’s useful claimer, again taking the mount.

Jefferson can also make his mark on the card.

The Norton trainer has good chances with Pilca (3.30), Pokanoket (4.00), who can make the most of the weight she receives from Springfield Raki, and the unraced Mac Aeda (5.00).

The latter makes his racecourse debut in the bumper, a race Jefferson won 12 months ago with the smart McMurrough.
