Jaconet is three from three this season and she is napped to extend her unbeaten record at Thirsk tomorrow.

Trained near the course at Maunby by David Barron, who looks a man to follow, Jaconet goes for the £18,600 Scarborough Handicap over five furlongs. She can show her rivals a clean pair of heels.

Now a four-year-old, Jaconet, who won her first race at Ripon last season at a very modest level, has since gone from strength to strength and Barron feels she is a filly very much on the upgrade.

Well drawn tomorrow, she should take all the beating.

In the Robin Hoods Bay Handicap over six furlongs, Cape Vale deserves attention.

Trained by the in-form David Nicholls, the four-year-old, a former useful juvenile, failed to cut much ice last season, but he showed a fair bit of promise on his comeback outing at Musselburgh last month and is horse to keep on the right side from now on.

Roman Republic can make a winning reappearance in the Runswick Bay Handicap.

The three-year-old won on his second and final outing last season, a maiden race at Doncaster in the autumn.

Significantly, he has been nominated by Mark Johnston as the horse to follow from his 200-horse yard this term, which is a tip in itself. A handsome colt, he promises to be very useful.

David Barron can start the Thirsk card on a winning note, courtesy of Parbold Hill, who showed ability on his debut and who should be all the better as a result of that experience.

On a Yorkshire double-header, Barron can also make his mark at Doncaster’s evening fixture with Pepper Lane in the San Rossore Maiden Auction Stakes.

Narrowly beaten at Ripon first time out, Pepper Lane has every chance of going one better this time.

Middleham rider Declan Cannon rode a good race to ride a winner at Thirsk last Saturday night and he can follow up aboard Red Wine in the crownhotel-bawtry.com Apprentice Handicap.

Red Wine finished a good second to the progressive Hawk Mountain on this course recently. If he can reproduce that form here, he will be hard to beat.

Kevin Ryan’s horses remain in good form and High Curragh, despite top weight, has excellent prospects in the Doncaster Racecourse Sponsorship Club Handicap.

Respite, an all-weather winner last time out, looks on a favourable mark to be competitive in the Moss Properties Handicap.

It would be remiss not to mention tomorrow’s showpiece event, which takes place at Newbury in the shape of the £250,000 Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes.

A field of 12 face the starter in this Group 1 event and my vote goes to Paco Boy, an impressive winner of a Group 2 race at Sandown on his latest start.

Richard Hannon’s likeable colt has run at Newbury three times and has won all three. It would be no surprise if he extended his unbeaten course record.
