BLINK and you’ll miss it. The feature race over five furlongs at Redcar tomorrow will be run in around 58 seconds and Jaconet, a real speed-merchant, is fancied to show her rivals the way home.

A five-times winner, including at York last July, when she beat the smart Captain Dunne, David Barron’s filly could hardly have started the current campaign in better fashion, with two wins from two outings.

Having returned with an all-weather victory, Jaconet was sent to Musselburgh earlier this month and duly followed up, bursting through inside the final furlong to win with something to spare.

The handicapper has raised the Thirsk-trained filly 5lb for that success, but she is clearly on a roll and, despite having to hump 9st 13lb in the £7,500 Book Tickets Online @ redcarracing.co.uk Fillies’ Handicap, she is expected to take plenty of catching. Phillip Makin, who knows her so well, has the mount.

Mark Johnston has a useful-looking horse on his hands in Topolski, who made light of his first excursion into handicap company at Beverley last week, winning by almost four lengths after bursting clear inside the final furlong.

It is no surprise to see Johnston running him under a penalty tomorrow before the handicapper has chance to reassess him from Saturday.

The Go Racing At Thirsk This Saturday Handicap looks a good opportunity to double up, despite his extra 6lb burden.

Rising Kheleyf is another horse fancied to defy a 6lb penalty at this meeting.

Alan Swinbank’s three-year-old scored in workmanlike fashion at Catterick last week over seven furlongs.

The step up to a mile in the Boddingtons Redcar Straight-Mile Championship Handicap (Qualifier) looks an ideal next port of call for this progressive-looking gelding.

John Quinn runs Do The Deal in the Become An Annual Badge Holder Today Maiden Stakes and this promising filly merits respect. Third in both her starts last season as a juvenile, at Chester and at Catterick, Do The Deal looks sure to win races this term.

Oondiri, who showed plenty of promise on her debut at Beverley from a poor draw, is napped to win the opening Redcar Maiden Auction Stakes for Tim Easterby and Duran Fentiman, while Amy Ryan has good prospects of chalking up another winner courtesy of La Capriosa, successful at Beverley last week, in the Redcar Conference And Exhibition Apprentice Claiming Stakes.

At Folkestone, make a note of the promising King Of Defence (4.30), who makes his handicap debut for shrewd trainer Michael Jarvis off a lowly mark of 69, and also Annabelle’s Charm (5.05) who can surely make a bold bid to fulfil her earlier promise for Luca Cumani, who has found her a modest race in which to finally shine.
