Hold your breath all you jumping fans, and keep fingers and toes tightly crossed.

Last night there was still a fighting chance that this afternoon’s Wetherby meeting – in extreme doubt in midweek after being frozen solid – would still go head.

A 9am inspection today will decide whether it’s a green or red light that Jonjo Sanderson, the clerk of the course, produces.

One man dearly hoping that it’s green is Howard Johnson, who saddled no fewer than six winners at Wetherby’s two-day Christmas meeting.

The County Durham trainer is set to saddle Door Boy in the European Breeders’ Fund Novices’ Hurdle in the hope this highly-regarded gelding can put his career back on winnng track.

Successful at Kelso on his first outing of the season, Door Boy then chased home Diamond Harry, the best novice seen out this season, at Cheltenham before finishing fifth in a Grade 2 race at Ascot last month.

Johnson has found him a more basic target today and will be disappointed if Door Boy cannot prove superior to his rivals.

Bingley trainer Sue Smith has good prospects of a double with It’s Bertie and Glenary.

It’s Bertie, disqualified for causing interference after gaining a narrow victory at Catterick two outings ago, has since finished a close second on the same course. He can gain a deserved success in the Racing Post ‘Hands And Heels’ Series Handicap Hurdle.

Glenary, an Aintree winner two starts back, has since finished second to Admiral Savannah on this course. He has prospects of going one better in the Buy Your Tickets Online At wetherby racing.co.uk Handicap Hurdle.

The feature race is the £30,000 Wetherby Racecourse & Conference Centre Graduation Chase, in which Roll Along looks the most likely winner.

Carl Llewellyn’s talented gelding, a winner at Ascot on his comeback outing this season, finished a good third to Barber’s Shop, owned by the Queen, and among the entries this week for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, at Sandown last month. He should be up to claiming this prize.

Carlisle is subject to an inspection today to determine prospects of racing tomorrow.

At the all-weather Flat meeting at Great Leighs, Dvinsky is napped to win the Ree Handicap under Jimmy Quinn.

The gelding has been in good form lately, winning at Wolverhampton two starts ago and finishing a creditable runner-up on the same course on his latest start last week. He should run a big race.

Hambleton trainer Bryan Smart, who has made a fine start to 2009, can add to his tally of winners with Samson Quest in the Gara Classified Stakes.

Successful at Lingfield last week, the seven-year-old will again be teamed up with Jim Crowley in his follow up bid.

The promising Auld Arty (1.55) and recent Southwell winner Vogarth (3.05) are two others to note.
