Tim Easterby, on the mark at York on Saturday with Countdown, can add to his rising tally of winners at Beverley tomorrow.

The Great Habton trainer, who is enjoying a bumper summer, is fancied to complete a double with Medici Pearl and Thewhirlingdervish.

The latter, who runs in the Watt Memorial Handicap - now in its 122nd year - over two miles, has been in fine form lately.

A winner at Pontefract two outings ago, the nine-year-old finished a close-up third to Inchnadamph at Catterick last week, despite not looking totally at home on that tight track.

Thewhirlingdervish should be better suited to Beverley and he is napped to have the edge over Brian Ellison's Pontefact specialist, Great As Gold.

Medici Pearl lines-up for the John Smith's Handicap, the feature race on the card, with £12,000 on offer in prize money.

The three-year-old has been running well in handicaps lately and now returns to the same course where she notched her only career success earlier this season. A bold show is expected.

Select Committee should not be overlooked in the Medieval Night Here Next Monday Maiden Stakes.

Trained by John Quinn and the mount of Graham Gibbons, Select Committee has run well in his three starts to date and, although it might be in handicap company that he makes his mark, the juvenile deserves respect tomorrow.

Dark Champion has strong claims in the Nick Wilmot-Smith Memorial Handicap over five furlongs. Ronnie Barr's gelding came good at Catterick recently, beating Rothesay Dancer, who has since won at Musselburgh. Nicely drawn, Dark Champion should go well again over a trip that suits.

What suits Red River Rebel is this track, and the course specialist runs in the Lady Jane Bethell Memorial Lady Riders' Handicap.

John Norton's gelding was nothing if not brave when recently winning here and he promises to give Serena Brotherton a good ride. Main danger may come from Alan Brown's Volaticus, who looks to be coming into form, and who will have the assistance of the excellent Jacqueline Kidd from Ireland.

At Brighton, Louphole (3.00), who reverts to turf from a recent runner-up effort on the all-weather, makes plenty of appeal under leading jockey Seb Sanders. The promising Princely Ted (4.30) is also worth considering under up-and-coming apprentice William Buick.
