New Jersey, who broke his maiden at York earlier this month in a race which is beginning to have a rock-solid look about it, steps up in class at Sandown tomorrow evening.

The two-year-old colt makes the trip south from Kevin Ryan's Hambleton yard to contest the £21,500 Betfair Mobile National Stakes and is fancied to follow-up.

New Jersey's Knavesmire success came at the main expense of Art Advisor, who franked the form with a decisive victory at Carlisle on Monday. Furthermore, Fred's Lad, who finished third at York, won a valuable race at Beverley last Saturday.

New Jersey has more than earned his chance in this Listed event and is selected to make his long trip worthwhile.

Ryan will also be keeping a close eye on the outcome of the featured Betfair Temple Stakes, the target of Red Clubs, who finished an excellent second to Ryan's star sprinter Amadeus Wolf in the Duke Of York Stakes on Knavesmire earlier this month.

A reproduction of that sterling effort from Red Clubs, who is trained by Barry Hills, would make him hard to beat in this Group Two affair, which carries £85,000 in prize money. A cracking contest is in prospect, with David Nicholls' Moss Vale, a horse closely matched on form with Red Clubs, in with every chance of landing the prestigious honours.

Hills can also win the £50,000 Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes with Mashaahed, a previous winner over this course and distance.

This high-class four-year-old made an encouraging start to the campaign when chasing home Red Rocks in the Gordon Richards Stakes on this course at the beginning of the month.

Thirsk trainer David Barron could be the man to follow at Ayr's afternoon meeting.

Barron, who won Monday's Zetland Gold Cup with Flipando, has excellent prospects of completing a double with Spinning and Trance.

The latter runs in the £9,000 Macdonald Solicitors Handicap over one mile and seven furlongs and his latest effort, when third to Kayf Aramis at York, puts him in here with solid claims.

Spinning, tomorrow's nap selection, finished third to Frank Crow at Musselburgh on his latest start. He would surely not need to improve much on that performance to take the Mactaggart And Mickel Handicap.

Howard Johnson has a promising juvenile in Montaquila, who is selected to win the Paradigm Maiden Stakes.

The Hawk Wing colt was beaten only two lengths into third by Feared In Flight on his debut at York, and left the distinct impression that he was a winner waiting to happen with that experience under his belt.
