ENJOY him while you can.

Legendary jockey Tony McCoy, who shocked the racing world when announcing his pending retirement after chalking up his ninth double century at Newbury on Saturday, rides at Catterick today.

McCoy, who will finally hang up his boots towards the end of the season, has two mounts at the North Yorkshire course where he boasts a remarkable strike-rate of 14 winners from 33 rides in the last five seasons, on what is the start of his farewell tour.

That the 19-times champion jockey will be inundated with well-wishers is a certainty when he steps out of the weighing room.

Ever the gentleman, he will doubtless sign more autographs and pose for more photographs than ever before.

McCoy, much to the delight of his countless fans, has two good chances after being among the winners at Leopardstown yesterday, most notably when landing the Hennessy Irish Gold Cup on Carlingford Lough.

He partners Dewala for Michael Appleby in the Yorkshire-outdoors.co.uk Handicap Hurdle.

A winner under Richard Johnson at Doncaster last time out when going from the front, the six-year-old is racing off an 8lb higher mark today, but promises to take plenty of catching.

In the featured £12,000 Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Handicap Chase, McCoy will be aboard Red Devil Boys for John Ferguson, who provided him with his 199th winner of the campaign in Qewy at Newbury on Saturday.

Successful in bumpers and over hurdles, Red Devil Boys suffered an unlucky fall at Doncaster on his chasing debut and has since finished second to Horizontal Speed over two and a half miles at Wetherby.

This afternoon, he steps up to three miles-plus and also contests a handicap for the first time. He does not look at all badly treated off an opening mark of 127 and is fancied to prove competitive.

A winner - or two - for McCoy in front of an appreciative North Yorkshire audience would be hugely popular. Fingers are crossed that it happens, now than ever before, given that the clock is ticking on the great man’s extraordinary career.

Brave Spartacus is napped to win the Dine And View At Catterick Races Handicap Hurdle.

A previous course winner, Keith Reveley’s gelding scored at Sedgefield in October and may have needed the outing when only fifth at Musselburgh just over three weeks ago on his first outing since. This is not the most competitive of races and Brave Spartacus is fancied to make all the running.

Reveley could also have a big say in the outcome of the Weatherbys Bank Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase with Ivan Boru.

A dual winner over hurdles, the seven-year-old now tackles handicap company for the first time over fences on his third start over the major obstacles.

Preference, however, is for Micky Hammond’s Gonow, who has shaped well in his two outings this term, not least on his latest outing on this course when chasing home the smart Straidnahanna.

Gonow will find this a less demanding challenge running in handicap company.

Catterick today: 1.40 Lough Derg Walk, 2.10 Brave Spartacus (NAP), 2.40 Gonow, 3.10 Dewala, 3.40 Red Devil Boys, 4.10 Black Jack Rover, 4.40 Shotowine.

Wolverhampton today: 2.00 Rat Catcher, 2.30 Sharp Sword, 3.00 Pivotman, 3.30 Off The Pulse, 4.00 The Yank, 4.30 Winter Queen, 5.00 Oak Bluffs, 5.30 Novalist.

Today’s other meeting: Plumpton.
