PAUL HANAGAN, who rode two winners at Southwell yesterday to get off the mark for the year, can repeat the feat at Wolverhampton tomorrow.

The top Malton jockey teams-up with First Order and Writ, both of whom have excellent chances.

Trained by Ian Semple, nap selection First Order finished third to prolific winner Areyoutalkingtome at Lingfield on his latest start, three weeks ago.

A winner over this course and distance in November, First Order can get back on top tomorrow.

Writ, also trained by Semple, is fancied to carry Hanagan to success in the Pontin's - Book Early Handicap over seven furlongs.

The five-year-old goes extra well on this track and, following two course wins in October, he resumed winning ways here a fortnight ago when getting the better of Foreplay by three-quarters of a length.

A 6lb penalty may not be enough to prevent Writ scoring again tomorrow.

Ruth Jefferson joins forces with her father, Malton trainer Malcolm Jefferson aboard Cumbrian Knight in the Go Pontin's Amateur Riders' Handicap, which they won with the same horse last year.

There is every chance that this repeat bid will have a similar outcome. A creditable third over fences at Catterick last time, the versatile Cumbrian Knight previously finished second, with Ruth in the saddle, on this course in a similar race to the one he contests tomorrow.

Second Reef, a creditable second to Peruvian Prince at this venue last month, is taken to go one better in the Pontin's Family Holidays Selling Stakes.

At Musselburgh tomorrow, all eyes will be on Purple Moon, who is set to make his jumping debut in the Country Refreshments Novices' Hurdle.

Formerly trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Purple Moon changed hands for no less than 440,000 guineas at Newmarket's autumn sales and is the most expensive ever purchase trained by Nicky Richards at Greystoke in Cumbria.

Richards, who handles the four-year-old for Craig Bennett, has been pleased with his new recruit has schooled over hurdles at home, but is keen to run him on some decent ground which, he hopes, Musselburgh will be able to offer.

A maiden race winner at Newbury last season, Purple Moon subsequently ran in Listed races and valuable handicaps for Stoute.

Quite what heights he can reach over hurdles is anyone's guess, but there will be no lack of interest in his debut performance tomorrow.

Also worthy of attention at the East Lothian course are Magificent Seven (2.40) and useful bumper horse Sir Boreas Hawk (3.40).
