Dunnington gained revenge over holders Dringhouses as they won 2-0 to clinch a place in the final of the York FA Saturday Senior Cup.

Last year’s beaten finalists will meet Old Malton St Mary’s – 2-1 extra time conquerors of York RI in the other semi-final – in the final at Tockwith on Saturday, April 28, kick off 2pm.

After a goalless first half at Dunnington, the hosts increased the tempo and they took the lead on 55 minutes when a floated free-kick fell to Jimmy Wilmott and he netted at the near post.

Wilmott was on hand again to net the second 20 minutes from time to seal victory in an entertaining game.

Old Malton forged ahead after 23 minutes of the other last four tie, Danny Fogg bagging the goal after a goalmouth scramble.

York RI drew level on the stroke of half-time when Nick Hutchinson scored from the penalty spot.

Lee Powell’s work-rate for RI in the second half stood out, but it was hosts Old Malton who almost won it in the last minute of the 90 when Dean Nuttall saw his shot hit a post before running along the goal line and being cleared.

The tie was settled with only two minutes of extra time remaining – and a penalty shoot-out looming – when John Newton embarked on a solo run and struck a low volley to seal a 2-1 triumph.

Dunnington Reserves made it a club double and they will take on Aviva in the final of the York FA Saturday Junior Cup at Tockwith on Saturday, April 21, kick off 2pm.

Dunnington were 2-0 winners at Strensall in the semi-finals.

The hosts were denied when Liam Wingfield’s header was tipped over by Jonny Kilgallon before Dunnington took the lead through Ross Wilkinson’s header. Oliver Ellwood then hit a post for the visitors before Tom Wheatland tapped in the second goal.

Heslington produced their best football of the season but were unable to score against Aviva, who won 1-0 through Jimmy Hartley on 70 minutes.
