Non-league legend Jim Collis has decided to call time on more than 40 years of leading teams in the York area after stepping down as Tadcaster Albion boss.

The man who once tipped a teenage Steve McClaren for stardom has handed over control at the Northern Counties East League division one club to the player who launched him into his managerial career.

The one filling his shoes is Jimmy Reid - the current Brewers' Under-19 coach, who introduced Collis to the Rowntree club many years ago.

Collis, who has already passed the standard retirement age, made the tough call after a virus last week coincided with the departure of number two Darren Wilson to a work promotion. Collis had been hoping Wilson would take over next season.

The combined events saw him call up Reid and ask if he was still keen to take the first team and the Scotsman said yes.

Collis said: "I'm sad but I'm bound to be - I've been in football and cricket all my life.

"I've been thinking about it for a while now. I don't want to let anybody down but I got Jimmy to take over from me and I know his pedigree - he played under me for 15 years."

Collis (pictured above) is confident the team can continue to build on the foundations he built since his arrival just over a year ago.

He said: "When I came, there were only three players. I think I'm leaving with at least 35 signed on for the Counties league.

"I've got some young players there and I hope that they get the same patience from Jimmy that I was giving them.

"They are not going to be world-beaters this year but if they stick together and they get in just a couple of players they will be a great side."

Reid's U19s number two Andy Snell has stepped up to the first team, and ex-York City player Graeme Law will help Reid to oversee the U19s.

Reid said: "When Jim took over, Taddy were in the doldrums but he's resurrected the club and I'll be trying to move it on a bit more."
