THE big shock in the first round of the York FA Saturday Senior Cup saw the exit of Leeper Hare York and District League premier division side Wigginton Grasshoppers following defeat by division one opponents Hamilton Panthers.

Grasshoppers took the lead after 30 minutes when Tom Coates lobbed the stranded Panthers 'keeper.

On the stroke of half-time, Panthers were back on level terms when a 20-yard free-kick from Mike McKenzie hit the top corner of the net.

In the second half, 16-year-old Luke Cannon of Panthers hit the woodwork on three occasions, but it was McKenzie who increased Panthers' lead with a carbon copy of his first-half goal.

Paul Barron sprang the offside trap to give Panthers a deserved 3-1 win.

Cup holders Kartiers proved far too strong for Tockwith with a crushing 4-0 win. There were two goals from James Tweedy and substitute Jon James, while James Barrett worked tirelessly in midfield.

Huntington Rovers, beaten finalists for the last two seasons, overcame neighbours Haxby United in a volatile game.

Kevin Butler put Haxby into a first-half lead with a close-range shot, but Garry Newton equalised for Huntington from the penalty spot.

In the second half, Newton added a further goal while Chris Dyson netted twice more.

Huntington's task was made easier when Haxby had Scott Barley and their 'keeper Mark Phillips sent off for comments he made in earshot of referee Peter Hartley.

Richard Beddingham netted a late goal from the penalty spot for Haxby, but Huntington ran out 4-2 winners.

Copmanthorpe took the lead courtesy of an own goal against Thorpe United, but by half-time Thorpe were back on level terms thanks to a Darren Rawlinson goal.

Thorpe took control in the second half and were rewarded with three goals - two own goals and Craig Pickles finishing off a team move for a 4-1 Thorpe win.

Dean Readman shot Old Malton into the lead after half an hour against Elvington. Five minutes later, Neil Wilford buried the ball into the top corner of the net to double Old Malton's lead.

In the second half, Old Malton were in total control and Danny Bulmer finished off a team move started by himself for number three and a headed goal from Simon Cooke gave a 4-0 scoreline.

Malton & Norton, the new name for the former Malton Bacon Factory side, were under pressure for the first 20 minutes of their tie against Ouseburn United and were indebted to a fine display by 'keeper Andrew Slaughter for keeping a clean sheet.

Malton & Norton then took the lead against the run of play through a fortunate own goal which deflected into the net following a corner.

A cross by Mark Taylor was volleyed into the net by Simon Collier for a second goal for Malton & Norton before half-time.

After Collier had been brought down in the second half, Paul Older converted from the spot to give his side a 3-0 success.

Poppleton defeated Stamford Bridge 5-0, with Dan Barrett leading the forward line with a well taken hat-trick, plus goals from Dave Hart and Craig Theakier.

Dunnington were always on top in their game against Easingwold and took the lead midway through the first half when Steve Hadden headed home following a long throw-in.

In the second half, Grant Tolworthy netted with a 35-yard shot into the top corner and a further goal followed from Kent Magall to give Dunnington a 3-0 win, although Easingwold went close when hitting the woodwork three time, but all to no avail.
