PICKERING Town central defender Michael McNaughton put in an heroic performance as a stand-in goalkeeper to deny Selby Town victory in Saturday.

The Northern Counties East League premier division tussle at the Recreation Ground finished 1-1 - thanks largely to the unlikely star between the sticks.

It looked gloomy for the Pikes when their goalkeeper Carl Silburn had to go off after former York City man Christian Fox put the Robins ahead.

With no other keeper on the bench, McNaughton volunteered and kept Selby at bay with some fine saves, one from Tom Matthews being out of the top drawer.

Selby had deserved their lead with their slick ground passing putting the home side on the back foot, but before half-time Steve Roberts cashed in on a defensive error to put Pickering level.

On the back of some fine McNaughton saves, Pickering came more into the game in the second half and were worth their point.

Selby are not without their own goalkeeping problems with Adam Mitchell ruled out for four weeks as he is going into hospital for an operation.

Tadcaster Albion went down 2-1 at Lincoln Moorlands in division one to an injury time goal by Chris McDonald.

A Steve Ward equaliser two minutes before the interval cancelled out the 25th minute opener headed by Lincoln's Graham Hodgson.

Harrogate Railway's Nathan Jones was both hero and villain in his side's 2-1 UniBond League division one victory at Bridlington Town.

He put Railway ahead with a great solo goal on 13 minutes and it looked plain sailing when Damian Henderson doubled the lead on 28 minutes with a far-post header.

Phil Harrison pulled a goal back for Brid before goalscorer Jones was sent off 15 minutes from the end after an off-the-ball incident and Rail were forced to hang on for victory.
