Division one champions Wigginton Grasshoppers saw their 21-match unbeaten run in the York Minster Engineering Football League come to an abrupt end at Hemingbrough.

The village side won 2-0 on Saturday with a goal in each half from Adie Wood.

Post Office’s fight to avoid the drop was not helped by a Danny Adams double as they lost 7-2 to Pocklington, while relegated Thorpe lost 8-0 at home to St Clement’s.

The Saints tally was shared between Danny Peace (3), Scott Nicholas (2), an own goal, Simon Kehow and Luke Cannon.

Heslington’s charge up the division two table ended in a 4-1 defeat at Strensall.

Stuart Dickenson gave Heslington an early lead, but the hosts hit back with goals from Shaun Lyons (2), John Cooper and Mick Pipe.

Stuttering Amotherby, with only one win in their previous four games, bounced back to reclaim second spot in the table thanks to a 3-0 win at Crayke.

John Dunning, Matty Bean and Alan Goforth were on target for Amotherby.

Heworth beat visitors Rawcliffe 4-0 to keep alive their slim promotion hopes.

The hosts’ goals came from Callum McKenzie, Danny Hall and Steve Tait (2).

Stamford Bridge ended a run of six games without a win to beat White Horse 3-0 and give themselves a chance of avoiding successive relegations.
