LEADERS Cliffe were held to a 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Rufforth in division three of the York Minster Engineering Football League.

Rufforth, without a win in seven matches, deservedly took the lead through Danny Whitcombe, but Kev Taylor salvaged a point for Cliffe with an equaliser 15 minutes from time.

First-half goals from Mark Benton and Neil Richardson looked to be easing Aviva to an eighth away game without a defeat, but Will Wood’s 16th goal of the season reduced the arrears for Civil Service before a diving header from Neil Hinds five minutes from time sealed a point.

Osbaldwick maintained an outside interest in the promotion places as they won 5-1 at Wheldrake, who still require a point to avoid the drop.

Osbaldwick, whose tally included a Paul Crangle hat-trick, face a final game at Fulford, who have games in hand and could still storm into the promotion party.

Fulford extended their unbeaten home run to six with goals from Andy Holmes and Jack Heath in a 2-0 victory over Barmby Moor.

Meanwhile, Bishop Wilton wrapped up their division four campaign in style as they beat Sporting Knavesmire 3-1.

The goalscorers were Tom Milner, Tim Aldred and Dan Gough.

It was Bishop Wilton’s first win in 12 matches.
