A FRESH twist to the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division title chase arose after Dringhouses lost 2-0 to Riccall for their first defeat in eight game.

Gaz Roberts headed Riccall in front in the first half with Louis Blackwell sealing a deserved victory midway through the second half.

Second-placed Huntington, who visit Dringhouses on Wednesday, fell behind to a Mark Woodward goal in their home encounter with York RI.

But two goals in the final five minutes before the break, the first from Jon James, the second from Pete Laidlaw swung the game in favour of the hosts before James added his second.

Dunnington beat visiting Hamilton Panthers 4-1.

Ian McKellar cancelled out Rob Hart’s opener for the home side but second-half strikes from Tom Richards, Stuart Lee and Jimmy Wilmoth enabled Dunnington prevail.

Kartiers ended a run of 18 home games without a win as they defeated York St Johns 2-1, Glen Littlewood and John Brehenney on target.

Old Malton edged a seven-goal thriller at Copmanthorpe after surviving a frantic finish.

Within the first ten minutes of the game Cop had missed a penalty and the Ryedale side had scored through Scott Preston, Liam Preston and Robbie Barker.

Danny Leach reduced the arrears just before the break.

Ten minutes into the second period Jon Newton hit Old Malton’s fourth and just as they looked to be coasting they were dealt two red cards and Cop struck twice through Alex McCraie and Robin Bedford.

However, the nine-man ranks held out for the maximum retyurn.

Only a 20-goal blitz by Malton & Norton in their final fixture will deny Nestlé Rowntree the runners-up spot in division one after the latter’s 3-3 draw at home to Post Office.

The visitors were given the perfect start with a Ben Branigan goal, and though Dale Phillips levelled, Dave Adams restored the Post Office lead.

Chris Horwell restored parity before Dave Newton edged Nestlé in front.

But a win to confirm promotion was denied by Dave Adam’s last-minute penalty.

Liam Burdett struck the only goal of the game as Malton & Norton extended their unbeaten run to eight by beating Thorpe.

First-half goals from Andy Walker and Will Richmond gave Tockwith a 2-0 win at Hemingbrough and Gary Marriott hit the game’s only goal as Pocklington defeated Selby RSSC.
