COCK-A-HOOP Tadcaster Albion return to league action tonight bidding to continue their momentous season.

Through to the last 32 of the FA Vase, Albion entertain Hallam in the Northern Counties East League premier division and the hosts were keeping everything crossed that the Ings Lane pitch would beat any onset of frost so the game manages to go ahead.

Victory tonight would hoist Albion into a challenging fourth place and within one point of third-placed Bridlington Town to maintain a push on two fronts.

The 3-2 Vase triumph at Formby was not only significant for the win but also for getting any match rustiness out of the legs with Albion’s visit to Merseyside their first action for ten days.

Said manager Paul Marshall: “You could see we were a bit leggy in the first half especially against Formby, but now we’ve got that match under our belts it will do us a power of good.

“It was great to come through a big game like the Vase tie with a great result, getting a victory even if we did not play too well.

“We are desperate to get the game played tonight because with Brighouse losing a win over Hallam would put us up to fourth place.”

Marshall was waiting on a late fitness test on top scorer Graeme Whitehead before deciding his line-up.

The striker, who notched the winner with an 85th-miniute diving header at Formby, aggravated a thigh strain.

“We’ll check on Graeme as it was troubling him at the end of the game, but I’m confident he should be okay for the Hallam match.”

Albion are also still awaiting to find out who they will play in the fourth round of the Vase.

Away to the winners of the third round clash between Westfields and Billingham Synthonia, that game was KO’d by the icy weather and has been rescheduled for this Saturday.

Elsewhere in the NCEL top-flight, Selby – who were without a game at the weekend anyway – travel to Maltby Main tomorrow.
