HOUNDS finished the season in triumphant style to win the York John Smith's Sunday Morning Football League division one title.

It is their first championship success for ten years and was achieved in champion fashion as they thumped Marcia 5-0 with strikes from Crowther (2), Harkin, Carmody and Carter and then defeated Volunteers 3-1 in midweek to finish top of the pile.

They were nine points ahead of runners-up Selby Olympia WMC, who also ended their schedule with a rousing 6-0 thumping of rivals Thorpe Utd. It was a hard-fought first half with only a Ryan Chadwick goal separating the two sides but Olympia pressed and rolled over Thorpe in the second period with further goals from Andy Addison (2), Danny Wadsworth, Danny Chadwick and Chris Burton.

Thorpe were on the end of a 3-2 defeat to bottom club Wigginton later in the week. Parker, Carney and J Coates were on target for Wigginton with Rowbottom and Lanaghan replying for Thorpe.

Severus SC, who beat Nestl Flag 3-2 in midweek with a Mark Woodward double and a goal from Dave Watson, finished third. This came before they claimed the York FA Senior Cup by defeating Derwent United 4-1 to cap a good season.

Ainsty Panthers had to play three games in six days to get their remaining fixtures in. They started with a 3-3 draw against Thorpe United which saw Simon Kehoe, Shaun Turner and Jamie Moore find the net for Panthers and Singleton, Warner and Lanaghan hitting the target for Thorpe.

Panthers then beat Nestl Volunteers 3-1 with Mark Willoughby, John Beech and James Anderson on target for Ainsty as they wrapped up their campaign with a 4-1 victory over Acomb WMC with Tosh Reid (2), Willoughby and Dean Dawson doing the damage.

Nestl Volunteers went head to head with the much improved Nestl Flag but could not stop Flag running riot in a 6-1 thumping. Ben Pears hit a hat trick, with further Flag goals coming from Chris Dyson, Glenn Banks and Kevin Butler. Howard scored Volunteers' consolation.

Hambleton finished as champions of division two but that did not stop York Nomads from beating them 4-3 with goals from Bradley (2), an own goal and a strike from Hildon. Dunne, Croad and Parker replied for the champs.

Acomb Celtic win the division three title with Skelton finishing runners-up. Copmanthorpe took third place after they bowled over F1 Racing 7-3 with goals from James Gilbertson (2), Matty Bastock (penalty), Dave Robinson, Joe Vaughan, Davie Gall and John Tate. F1 bounced back to beat Wilberfoss 4-0 in midweek.
