SHOOTING sensation Steve Lyon might be getting the lion’s share of Selby Town’s goals, but it’s the rounded nature of the Robins’ attack that is helping him to prosper, writes Tony Kelly.

Lyon goes into tomorrow’s return to Northern Counties East League premier division duty at Parkgate leading the Robins’ scoring charts on 12 goals after his midweek hat-trick brought about the downfall of Emley in a 5-0 President’s Cup conquest.

The spearhead striker, who is the son of Selby manager Bob Lyon, would however be the first to acknowledge his exploits have benefited from the rest of his attacking team-mates.

While Lyon has profited to lead the goal charts, he has been aided by the work ethic of fellow forwards Duncan Bray, Liam Radford and Stuart Dove.

Selby normally exact a decent run from their trips to Parkgate so will be hoping to yield a maximum haul that will keep them on the coat-tails of the NCEL leaders.

Pickering Town’s immediate task however is to restore morale ahead of their home premier division game against Dinnington after the Pikes’ recent five-game renaissance came unstuck in a 4-0 loss to second-placed Armthorpe Welfare.

Both Pickering and Dunnington are lodged in mid-table separated by a mere point, but a win for either could kick them on to a healthier second-half of the campaign.

Scarborough Athletic, whose table-topping exploits have dimmed to drop them to fourth place, play hosts to sixth-placed Liversedge, while there is no game for Tadcaster Albion in the NCEL first division.

Fresh from their FA Trophy heroics, Harrogate Town entertain Ilkeston Town in their first home Blue Square North action in six weeks.

In that time the Wetherby Roaders have undergone a mini-recovery. Unbowed in their last five games, including that memorable Trophy triumph at FC United of Manchester, Town will now be hoping the upswing will propel them away from the bottom spot of the Blue Square North.

Harrogate Railway Athletic, meanwhile, make the short trip to Wakefield in a battle for vital UniBond League division one North plunder.
