SCARBOROUGH Athletic marched on at the top of the Northern Counties East League at the expense of derby rivals Pickering Town.

The Pikes were beaten 2-0 at Queensgate in the premier division on Saturday, with returning striker Ryan Blott netting after seven minutes before Scott Phillips added a second-half penalty.

Fourth-placed Selby+Town%22+%2B%22Northern+Counties%22">Selby Town were also beaten, 2-1 at Winterton Rangers.

Danny Frost and Gavin Cooper put Rangers 2-0 up inside the first 20 minutes and the Robins could only claw one back through Ben Spilman five minutes after the break.

Tomorrow, Selby travel to Hallam in round two of the NCEL League Cup (7.45pm).

Harrogate Railway Athletic crashed out of the FA Trophy at the first hurdle, losing 2-1 at Shepshed Dynamo.

Luke Barlone put the hosts in front on 58 minutes and although James Nestor levelled on 76 minutes, Barlone struck the winner with five minutes remaining.

Former York City defender Jimmy Beadle scored twice as Whitby Town beat Warrington Town 5-2 in the Trophy.

Ex-Leeds and Harrogate Town striker Tony Hackworth also netted for Whitby.
