Hamilton Panthers have crowned a Leeper Hare York & District Football League double after the second-string won the Reserve ‘B’ title to go along with the seniors’ premier division success.

In an emotional tribute, the premier division conquest was dedicated to the memory of former player Dean Dawson, who was killed in an alleged hit and run accident in Wakefield last summer.

Dean’s son Alfie was presented with a medal alongside the rest of the first team at the presentation of trophies made by Leeper Hare League secretary Pete Gibson.

The Panthers, who retired Dean’s favourite number four shirt in honour of the club stalwart, have also since declared its annual Mini Soccer Gala for under-eights, U9s and U10s at Little Knavesmire to be named in honour of ‘Deano’.

Since his tragic death, close on £4,000 has been raised by various club events to be divided between a fund for Alfie and the club.

To clinch the Reserve ‘B’ crown, the Panthers nabbed a 1-1 draw against Wilberfoss.

Nick Daniels put Wilberfoss in front, but Shaun Turner levelled for Panthers to secure the point they needed.

The draw was also enough for Wilberfoss to snatch the runners-up spot.

Elsewhere, prolific striker Scott Dixon scored a hat-trick for Huby in their 3-1 win over Osbaldwick.

Dixon repeated his feat from the reverse fixture, which Huby also won 3-1, to seal three points in division two. Chris Thompson replied for Osbaldwick, just as he did in the earlier match.

Division three side Selby RSSC warmed up for tonight’s cup final meeting with Huby by beating LNER Builders 3-1 to extend their unbeaten run on the road to 12 matches.

The Selby side will be looking to complete the treble following their York FA Cup win and promotion from division three.
