SELBY Town closed their season with a 2-1 defeat by Arnold Town in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

The Robins are now looking over their shoulder as Long Eaton could snatch second place behind champions Mickleover Sports.

Ex-York City striker Martin Carruthers put Arnold into a sixth minute lead, but Tom Matthews levelled for the visitors on 65 minutes. Chris Freestone won it in the 80th minute.

Pickering Town were beaten 3-2 at home by Dinnington despite leading 1-0 and 2-1. Michael McNaughton scored in the 41st minute and, after Dinnington levelled, Danny Brunton added a second on 53 minutes.

However, the Pikes could not hold out and they must now beat Long Eaton in their last game tomorrow (7.45pm) to secure a top nine finish.

Tadcaster Albion were beaten 6-0 at home by Rossington Main in division one, but avoided the prospect of re-election as Yorkshire Amateur also lost.

Danny Gray and Craig Hogg were on the scoresheet in the final ten minutes as Scarborough Athletic beat Appleby Frodingham 2-0.

Harrogate Town finished the Blue Square North campaign in ninth place after a 3-2 defeat at Gainsborough Trinity. Jamie Smith and Nicky Gray were the Harrogate scorers in manager Neil Aspin’s last game in charge.

Ben Jones scored twice for Harrogate Railway but they lost 3-2 to Warrington in UniBond League division one north.
