SELBY RSSC edged out Strensall to win the York FA Saturday Junior Cup final at Poppleton.

The game got off to a dramatic start when Robert Friar took advantage of hesitant goalkeeping from Christopher Graham to put Selby ahead on three minutes. Friar again went close on five minutes, but was denied by an outstanding save.

Sean Lyons missed the chance to equalise early in the second half, while Graham thwarted Chris Cowan.

Strensall’s Danny Mason saw his free-kick clear the bar and Selby’s defence held on to seal the victory.

The Riley Smith Cup and medals were presented by Bryan Shearer, life vice-president of the York FA.
