HIGH-FLYING Selby Town and Pickering Town joined in the scoring spree as 53 goals were netted in nine Northern Counties East League premier division games.

The Robins stayed in second place after a 5-1 victory at fifth-placed Bridlington Town, while the Pikes edged out basement side Eccleshill 6-4 to remain in third.

Leaders Mickleover beat Maltby Main 5-0, while Parkgate scored six goals and Nostell and Winterton bagged five apiece.

Selby were 3-0 up inside the opening 25 minutes thanks to two goals from former York City midfielder Christian Fox and one from Steve Lyon.

Brid pulled a goal back with Frank Belt’s 76th minute penalty, but Brenton Leister scored from the spot with six minutes to go and Dean Welburn added a fifth in the last minute.

Pickering turned around a 4-3 half-time deficit against Eccleshill at Mill Lane.

The visitors led 2-0 after 14 minutes, thanks to Andy Howland’s strike and a Wayne Aziz own goal.

Liam Salt and Ricky Greening scored within a minute of each other to level, but Howland’s second made it 3-2.

Joe Conner equalised again for the Pikes, only for Ryan Wood to nudge Eccleshill ahead at the break.

Luke Ibbetson produced Pickering’s third equaliser on 59 minutes, before goals from Tom Adams and Danny Brunton settled a topsy-turvy game.

In division one, former Tadcaster Albion striker Danny Gray returned to Ings Lane with a two-goal salvo as Scarborough Athletic won 4-0. Top-scorer Ryan Blott also scored two for the runaway league leaders – taking his tally for the season to 27.

Harrogate Town conjured a late leveller to take a point from their home clash with Stafford Rangers in Blue Square North.

The hosts led 2-0 at half-time through Danny Holland and James Dean, but Stafford looked to have sealed the points with three second half goals. However, ex-York City full-back Nathan Peat smashed in a free-kick in the last minute.

Harrogate Railway Athletic claimed the scalp of play-off contenders Lancaster City in UniBond League division one north.

Railway led 2-0 at half-time and, although Lancaster hit back after the break, the Station View side held on for their seventh win of the campaign.

Former York City striker Paul Brayson took his tally for the season to 26 with two goals in Newcastle Blue Star’s 4-0 win at Warrington. Player-manager Steve Bowey was also on the scoresheet.
