FORMER Haxby JFC defender Sam Byram has signed for newly-promoted Premier League side Norwich City.

The 25-year-old - who went to school at Joseph Rowntree School - has become the Canaries' fourth signing of the summer, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal at Carrow Road.

He joins from top-flight rivals West Ham and links up with former York City player Ben Godfrey, who moved to East Anglia from Bootham Crescent in 2016.

A product of Leeds United's academy, Byram left Elland Road for the Boleyn Ground in January 2016 but could never establish himself as a first-team regular in east London.
