WIGGINTON Grasshoppers have been crowned Fastpack York Sunday Morning League champions for the third time in five seasons.

A 9-1 win at Bishopthorpe CFC sent the side four points clear of previous holders Hounds with one game of their division one campaign left to play.

Matthew Mulhearn fired Hoppers into an early lead before Neal Holmes netted a 25-yard free kick yards to double the advantage. Jamie Willstrop scored from close range before Mulhearn rounded the keeper to make it 4-0 at the break.

A second-half hat-trick from Reuben Young plus goals from Jack Thompson and Steve Jarvis sealed the victory.

Second-placed Hounds thrashed Brayton 9-0, but in vain. Tom Collins bagged three with Shaun Heselwood, Arran Hodgson, Darren Jackson and Lewys Williams also scoring for Hounds.

Haxby United secured fourth spot with a 5-2 victory over Malt Shovel following their promotion last season. Lewis Clark, Daniel Clipston, Jean Grenier, Will Plews and Louis Wilson all scored for Haxby. James Arnold and Jake Raistrick struck for eigth-placed Malt Shovel.

Sixth-placed Bramham beat Hambleton 6-2, closing the gap on their opponents to a point. Two goals from Nathan Parker either side of the break were not enough for Hambleton.

Thorpe United took another step towards the division two title after brushing aside York Medics 7-1.

Kings Head United beat Rawcliffe United 5-0 and leapfrogged Mitre into third place. James Deal bagged a hat-trick with James Rusling and Lewis Hall adding.

Selby Olympia beat Clockhouse 6-3. Thomas Lazenby and Andrew Porter scored two each with Nathan Lister and Luke Lambert also scoring for Selby.

K Town United beat Elvington Harriers 6-3 with Mitch Sleight and Johnny Bebb bagging two each. Harry Davies and Thomas Drake added for K Town.

FC Pollington came out top of their basement battle against FC Harrogate by an 11-4 margin to claim only their third win of the season.
