THERE was a bizarre double loss in the York Sunday Afternoon Football League's League Cup competition.

Though Dunnington toppled hosts Winning Post 6-2, the triumph was declared void and both teams were booted out of the League Cup.

It was discovered that Adam Brearly, who scored five of the Dunnington plunder, had not been registered to play for the club. Then with the tie to be awarded to Winning Post, it was found that one of their marksmen - Jordan Hornby - similarly had not been registered, so both teams were expelled.

Elsewhere in the competition, Clifton Rangers staged a spirited comeback, rallying from 2-0 down to Bubwith United to win 4-3 in extra time. Clifton's goals came from David Maud, Michael Lillie, Thomas Adie and Stephen Gagen with the Bubwith replies shared between Richard Taylor (2) and Andrew Coe.

Bubwith White Swan had little trouble advancing to the third round after lashing College of Law 8-0. Peter Taylor led the way with four goals ahead of Stuart Askew (3) and Jeremy James.

The day's highest scorers were AFC Huntington, who hammered homesters Walnut Tree 13-3.

Danny Rodgers scythed down Walnut with a seven-goal haul supplemented by goals from Clifford Baxter (3), Luke Smith (2) and Euan Paton. Daniel Barrow, Darryl Boulton and Alex Malem scored for Walnut Tree.

Kings Head eased into the next round as 4-0 conquerors of Yearsley Grove, the home booty divided among Joseph Jefferson (2), Stuart Ellis and Mikey Brown.
