YORK & District Schoolboys Under-14s closed their regional league season with a 2-2 draw against visiting Spen Valley.
Archie Colley and Cole Gayles struck in the first half for York but Spen Valley came back in the second to earn a share of the spoils.
The hosts took the lead after man-of-the-match Mathew Dawes fired a right-wing cross into the visitors’ penalty box. Joe Sidebottom helped the cross on and Colley neatly diverted the ball into the back of the net.
Gayles headed York into a two-goal lead. Dawes did well to keep the ball in play, drive into the box and chip to Gayles at the far post.
Only an outstanding save prevented Jamie Grainger adding his name to the scoresheet before the break.
In the second half, Spen Valley reduced the deficit as a long pass from their own half dropped in behind the York defence for a visiting striker to chip over keeper Noah Ellis, before going on to level from the penalty spot.
