CHURCH Fenton will meet Old Malton St Mary’s in the final of the York FA Saturday Senior Cup after beating Dunnington 4-3 in a thrilling semi-final.
Dunnington, who sit sixth in the York Minster Engineering League premier division, went 1-0 up on 20 minutes through Samson Wildwood.
But third-placed Church Fenton then scored twice through Liam Mcentee and, on the stroke of half-time, Matt Howgate to go in 2-1 up at the break.
Two breakaway goals by Josh Tinkers then put them clear at 4-1 before goals by Darren Sellers and Dan Andrew brought the score back to 4-3.
Dunnington almost did enough to force a penalty shoot-out but Church Fenton held on.
Treble-chasing Old Malton, the runaway YMEL premier division leaders, had already made it through to the final, which will take place on May 4 at Tockwith.
Meanwhile, Clifford beat Haxby Town Reserves 4-2 to reach the final of the Saturday Junior Cup.
After taking the lead, YMEL division two side Clifford found themselves a goal behind at half-time to Haxby Town Reserves. But they came out stronger in the second half and scored three goals, two from corner kicks where captain James Stuart was left unmarked.
Malt Shovel beat Civil Service 2-1 in the other semi-final last week.
