RELEGATION-THREATENED Sporting Knavesmire enjoyed a convincing 3-0 win over Kirkbymoorside in the weekend's only York Minster Engineering League premier division fixture.

While cup competitions took centre stage in the league, Knavesmire continued a short run of form that has seen them collect seven points out of their last nine. Danny Owers gave the hosts a half-time lead with Shane Tomlinson and Andrew Simpson adding goals in the second 45.

Pocklington Town moved to within five points of the division one title with a 2-1 victory at Cliffe.

The visitors went ahead in the first half only for Jamie England to level from the spot early in the second period. Pocklington's winner came with 20 minutes to play.

Jason Heslop (2), Luke Quantock, Kieran Harris, Liam Wingfield and Arran Rose all found the net for Strensall in a 6-4 victory at Bishopthorpe United.

The only game in division two was a thriller as Civil Service edged out Barmby Moor 6-4. Will Nicholson put the visitors ahead before Alex Day and Matty Williams turned things around. Another strike from Nicholson and a goal from Stu Barker, either side of a second strike from Williams, sent the teams in level at the break with the score standing at 3-3.

A second-half hat-trick from Alex Day, taking his total in the game to four, put the result beyond doubt before James Marshall bagged a fourth for Barmby Moor.

With division three leaders Heslington out of action, the three teams directly below them all won to close the gap.

Helperby beat Elm Park 6-0, with the plunder shared by Ryan Foster, Mark Jackson, Daniel Spink, Simon Webster, Rohan Gulliver and Louis Millne.

Richard Kendall and Ben Bailey fired Wheldrake to a 2-1 triumph at Crayke United while Selby Olympia registered a 5-2 success at LNER Builders.

Meanwhile, Dunnington returned to the top of reserve 'A' with a 4-3 win over Osbaldwick, moving three points clear of second-placed Thorpe United.

Andy Rose struck twice for the home side with Fin Smith and James Walker also netting. Joe Hickey, Nick Lawrie and Paul Crangle replied.

Thorpe, though, have two games in hand on the leaders and a commanding goal difference so remain favourites to win the division.

Ben Jones hit a hat-trick to add to a Matt Foote strike as Copmanthorpe won 4-3 at Wilberfoss in reserve 'B'.

Rufforth United moved three points clear at the top of reserve 'C' with a 5-0 win at Harrison Signs. Zac Hansen bagged a hat-trick with Lewis Chipchase and Brad Walters also on target.
