TADCASTER Albion reckon their i2i Stadium pitch will be back in action for next Saturday after last weekend's massive floods.

The Brewers count themselves lucky they are not hosting a game this weekend and instead are able to host "clean-up days" today and tomorrow from 10am to noon.

Taddy's home turf was submerged when the River Wharfe burst its banks on Sunday but they hope to have the ground useable for their Evo-Stik League east division clash with play-off rivals Pontefract Collieries a week tomorrow.

Club spokesman Jay Taylor said: "There's still plenty of water on the pitch. It got into the equipment shed and caused some severe damage, which has a massive impact on us because we pride ourselves on our pitch.

"The Environment Agency says everything has to be pressure washed. The stands are covered in water and other not-nice things. We need to make sure it's not contaminated.

"There's never a good time for your ground to flood, but with us not having a game this weekend, it's probably the best.

"We're hoping to get a lot of that sorted in those two days. We've got a lot of people coming down."

Taddy are looking to raise £5,000 to help the recovery effort. The Just Giving page they set up has collected around 30 per cent of this target, with Leeds United, York City and South Shields fans all contributing.

"It's nice to see the football community pull together," Taylor said.

Leeds fans in particular have made notable contributions to Tadcaster Albion since their Under-23s played a Premier League Cup game against Southampton at the i2i back in January. In the 24 hours after the game, Taddy's Twitter following rocketed from 7,500 to 10,500.

Earlier this month, Taddy won £25,000 in the Buildbase Transfer Deal competition, with the aim of helping rebuild from the devastating flooding of 2015. The team that placed second received 1,300 votes to Taddy's 3,100, of which a significant proportion is believed to have come from Leeds fans.

Taylor said: "Since we hosted them, it's gone crazy. We have a lot of Leeds fans working at the club, and a lot of Taddy fans support Leeds as well.

"Thankfully they've continued their support and showing it with generosity. Hopefully we'll get more down by the end of the season."
