JACK SIMPSON scored twice to see the York Minster Engineering League representative team to a 2-0 win over the Yorkshire Amateur League.

The Yorkshire Amateur side - which draws from teams in the Leeds, Bradford and Halifax areas - were undone by goals either side of half-time for the York reps.

An even first 10 minutes at Pocklington gave way to a more dominant York performance as last season's losing Inter-League Cup finalists played well through the midfield thanks to the trio of Damon Cox, Scott Nicholas and Jake Duckworth.

Man-of-the-match Simpson broke the deadlock on the half-hour when he received the ball at his feet around 30 yards from goal and used his pace to beat four defenders and slot the ball in the bottom corner.

With 25 minutes to go, Old Malton St Mary's man Simpson got the second, brilliantly chipping the keeper after Cox - who had a first-half header ruled out for offside - put in a good ball over the defence.
