OLD Malton St Mary's pulled 10 points clear at the top of the York Minster Engineering League premier division following their 2-0 defeat of Poppleton United.

The win - in which Marcus Godsell got both goals - leaves them just six points away from clinching the title given their vastly superior goal difference over their rivals.

In any case, Old Malton have five games remaining and so it seems likely that goal difference will be an irrelevance come the end of the season.

Huntington Rovers saw any dwindling title ambitions disappear following their 2-1 home defeat from Sporting Knavesmire.

Rovers, the long-time front-runners who have hit a terrible run of form, took the lead just before half-time when James Edmond converted a penalty, only to see the visitors respond in style immediately.

From kick-off, the ball was played back to Tom Kite who lashed it over the Rovers' keeper and into the net from behind the half-way line.

Huntington keeper Drew Brabbs saved a second-half penalty from Knavesmire, only to see Kite double his tally from the resulting corner.

Dunnington equalised through Samson Wildwood in controversial circumstances and Tom Fleet put them ahead just before the interval. Despite chances for both sides in a scrappy second-half the score remained unchanged as Dunnington ran out 2-1 winners.

Dringhouses suffered an unexpectedly heavy defeat at Thorpe United.

In a game featuring a plethora of yellow cards, Dringhouses were reduced to nine men and conceded six goals without finding the target themselves.

Thorpe, who dominated proceedings from the off, collected their haul courtesy of Edward Wileman (2), Jonathan Wileman, Michael Braithwaite (2) and Paul Moran. Thorpe now sit in seventh position, two points adrift of Houses in sixth.

The top two in reserve 'C' could not be separated on points before or after their game on Saturday as Rufforth United and Rawcliffe played out a 1-1 share-all. Paul Lawrence struck for the visitors with Zac Hansen netting for Rufforth.

Matt Gibson and Jacob Green struck for Harrison Signs at Heworth but could not stop their side suffering a 4-2 defeat.

Sam Johnson netted for Fulford in a 1-1 draw at Brooklyn, while Jamie Rutherford and Andrew Brown found the net for Sporting Knavesmire in a 2-0 victory at Wheldrake.
