TOCKWITH caused the shock of the York Minster Engineering League Senior Cup’ first round when they dumped premier division high-fliers Church Fenton out 3-0.

Will Richmond, Tom Smith and Henry Gardiner secured victory for the first division underdogs.

Heworth also knocked out a premier division outfit, beating Kirkbymoorside 3-1 on penalties with Ian Johansen saving three of the four spot kicks he faced.

Josh Winn, Liam Neal and Nathan Wright had earlier netted for the first division side in a 3-3 draw over 90 minutes.

Easingwold Town beat Poppleton United 5-4 on penalties following a 2-2 draw, while Cliffe almost produced a shock at cup holders Huntington Rovers, surging 3-1 up at half-time through Tom Collins (2) and Jamie England.

However, a second-half rally saw Chris Dyson’s header add to Jonny Bullivant’s first half effort before James Edmond bagged a brace to turn the tables.

Dave Watson and Liam Robertson netted as Dringhouses defeated Sporting Knavesmire 2-0, whilst Old Malton St Mary’s overcame F1 Racing 3-1 and Haxby Town were defeated 2-1 by Osbaldwick.

Matthew Tiplady and Jake Duckworth efforts ensured Wigginton Rovers saw off Bishopthorpe United 2-1, while Malton & Norton won 2-1 at Strensall Tigers, Rawcliffe beat Riccall United 4-3 on penalties after a goal-less tie and Hemingbrough United scored a 2-0 success at Harrison Signs.

In round two, Dunnington overcame Pocklington Town 3-0 and Copmanthorpe prevailed 4-2 against Tadcaster Magnets thanks to Ben Jones (2), Ellis Stephenson and Lee Atkinson.

In the Junior Cup, Will Etty’s brace couldn’t save Elm Park from exiting 5-2 to Swinton.

Pollington won a 4-3 nail-biter with Heslington, while Malt Shovel triumphed at Selby Olympia by the same score line and Bubwith White Swan and Clifford were 3-2 winners against Wheldrake and Wombleton Wanderers respectively.

There were some big-name casualties, meanwhile, in round one of the League Reserve Cup with both Huntington Rovers and Wigginton Grasshoppers falling at the first hurdle.

Rovers were knocked out when Will Balcombe netted the only goal of the game on 85 minutes for a Tockwith team that were reduced to ten men early in the second half.

Goals from Luke Conkleton and John Cavanagh saw Wigginton lead 2-0 against Hemingbrough United, but the latter progressed after grabbing an 88th-minute winner.

Copmanthorpe also crashed out, with goals from Brad Urquhart and Kieran Nelson their only consolation in a 7-2 home loss to Wilberfoss.

Nathan Harland, Joe Mason, Matty Williams and Lloyd Crawford goals saw Civil Service knock out Sporting Knavesmire 4-1 with 16-year-old keeper Nathan Storr also saving a penalty.

Josh Powell (2), Josh Fensome and Lewis Wrathall collected Fulford’s haul in a 7-4 loss at home to Tadcaster Magnets.

Malton & Norton cruised to a 9-0 win against Wilberfoss, whilst Old Malton St Mary’s beat Haxby Town 4-0.

Last season’s winners F1 Racing saw off Wheldrake 5-1 courtesy of Tich Hemingway, Nathan Snowden, Dan Cooper, Frazer Shields and Adam Love goals.

Ben Hunter and Connor Pears struck for Rawcliffe in a 3-2 home defeat to Poppleton United, while Tom Burdett (2) and Ali Harvey were on target for Osbaldwick Reserves in a 3-3 home draw with Bishopthorpe United, but the latter prevailed 5-4 on penalties.

Church Fenton won their shoot-out against Thorpe United in identical fashion following a 1-1 draw.
