JACK Walters’ first goals for the club reignited Tadcaster Albion’s play-off hopes after a 2-1 win at Loughborough Dynamo.

The Brewers made a confident start in Leicestershire with Pete Davidson sweeping out to an unmarked Casey Stewart on the left – but his first-time effort curled straight into the arms of Charlie Taylor.

Stewart and Joe Lumsden were showing promising signs, linking up on four minutes only for the former to be crowded out inside the penalty area.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty kick when Paddy Miller was adjudged to have pushed Luke Foster. Dynamo danger-man Karl Demidh stepped up but blazed wildly over the mark.

That didn’t seem to deter Loughborough as Josh Riley played Alex Steadman through on goal but he was outfoxed by Taddy skipper Michael Ingham, who saved well with his feet.

The big Northern Irishman was called into action again when a short back-pass by Ellis Barkworth forced the keeper to charge out and superbly smother the shot.

Taddy responded well and could have opened the scoring themselves on the half hour mark.

Corey Roper picked out Lumsden who jinked past his man a couple of times before his eventual shot flew straight at Taylor.

Another clear-cut opening was squandered moments later. After Lumsden challenged the goalkeeper, Savory poked past the stopper back to Lumsden but his tame prod goalwards was cleared off the line.

Anguish quickly turned to delight though as Taddy opened the scoring on 35 minutes.

Defender Walters hadn’t scored for Tadcaster previously but opened his account from the resulting Stewart corner, thundering an unstoppable header home.

Loughborough replied rapidly – within 18 seconds to be precise. Ryan Robbins used all of his experience to power his way into the box before arrowing a shot into the bottom corner.

Dynamo continued to pose a threat from set-pieces with centre-back Foster being the main target, but a series of important headers and blocks saw the sides go in level at the break.

Taddy began the second half in the ascendency as they looked to regain the lead.

Another brilliant switch of play from Roper out to Stewart created another chance, but the latter's shot was deflected over. Walters had the ball in the net again from the resulting corner but a free-kick was given for a foul.

Davidson did well to skip up the by-line before stinging the hands of Taylor, and Howarth couldn’t guide his header back on target. Lumsden then held off his man well and teed up Savory who dragged a 25-yarder wide.

The winning goal arrived nine minutes from time when another Stewart corner kick was turned home by Walters.

Remarkably, the left-back came close to sealing his hat-trick in the closing stages when his header was hooked off the line.

Also in the Evo-Stik League east division, Pickering Town were beaten 1-0 at home by Ossett United.

A crowd of 250 watched a tight encounter at Mill Lane, which was eventually settled by Chris Chantler's goal for the visitors 13 minutes from time.

In the premier division, Scarborough Athletic were denied three points by a last-minute Nantwich Town equaliser.

Luke Lofts had given the Seadogs a fourth minute lead before Matthew Bell netted the hosts' late leveller.

In the Northern Counties East League, Knaresborough Town crashed to a surprise 5-0 home defeat to Thackley, while Harrogate Railway Athletic were also beaten at home.

Albert Ibrahimi fired Athletic ahead with a 16th-minute penalty, but Hemsworth Miners Welfare roared back to win 3-1.

Selby Town also lost 3-1 on home turf, with Liam Flanagan their goalscorer as Worsbrough Bridge Athletic took all three points home from their division one encounter.

Finally, Harrogate Town lost 3-1 in their National League clash with visiting Ebbsfleet, despite Jack Muldoon's goal for the hosts.
