YORK & District Schoolboys Under-14s lost a half-time lead as they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at Wakefield in their regional schoolboys league.

Joe Sidebottom put the visitors ahead with a solo goal but the hosts' pressure paid off during the 20 minutes after the restart as York went down to their seventh defeat in eight games.

Both sides went close early on, with York keeper Louis Powell called on to save in the eighth minute and Thorpe shooting off target shortly afterwards.

Before the break, Sidebottom found the net after dribbling along the edge of box, skipping past loose challenges and firing left-footed into the bottom right corner.

Wakefield upped the pressure in response and tapped in a 55th-minute equaliser, reacting quickest from a rebound off a post, before getting the winner 10 minutes on with a curling effort into the top right corner.

York's man of the match was Ollie Brooks-Humphrey.

York Schoolboys U13s were held to an exciting 0-0 draw at home against Pendle as two evenly-matched passing sides cancelled each other out.

Oliver Fash had a couple of early sights of goal for York - firing over from the edge of the area after composed right-back Dylan Jones linked well with Lucan Chan and Joseph Richardson - before being denied by a brave save when one-on-one with the keeper.

York were dealt a blow before half-time, losing full-back Ryan Evans to a shoulder injury. He was replaced by Mitch Parkinson, who nearly scored with his first touch from Richardson's good run and cross.

A second-half Ben Myers free kick drew a reflex save from the keeper following a deflection from a Pendle defender before Bobby Boyeson went agonisingly close, dinking a finish beyond the Pendle keeper but out off the inside of the post.

York Schoolboys U12s went some way to putting the disappointment of last week's cup exit behind them with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Sheffield 'B'.

The hosts enjoyed good possession to begin with and had York under pressure as the away side started a little cagily, with the back line of Harry Shane, Billy Hobson and Ben Armitage having to stay alert.

Once settled, York found their passing rhythm and had a chance through Alex Widdup, whose initial effort was saved before Arthur Jefferson-Hallett's shot off the rebound was blocked.

Kiam Browne got his goal in the third period of the match, cutting in from the left and firing a delicious right-footed curling shot into the corner of the net, but the hosts pulled level after firing in from a Jack Yates save.

Man of the match for York was Billy Hobson.

Ben Farrar scored York Schoolboys U11s' only goal of the game as hosts Barnsley came from behind to win 2-1.

York man-of-the-match Farrar netted the opener from a corner in the second third of the game, but it was cancelled out before the end of the period by a nice shot into the bottom corner.

And Barnsley found the winner as a striker beat the onrushing Eugene Revill to a ball through the middle.
